Michigan Health Insurance Rules Changing

It was announced today that the rules governing Michigan’s health insurance market are changing.  The debate about whether to change the rates for individuals has been ongoing in the state.

Consumers for Fair and Affordable Insurance Reform a newly formed coalition announced on Wednesday that they are supporting the legislation backed by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.

Opposition includes AARP and other insurance companies including Aetna.

Both sides are accusing the other of being directed by financial self-interest.

Bills pending in the Senate would provide protection for individuals who buy their own health insurance supporters say.

Opponents argue Blue Cross is unfairly aided by the bills and that they will not help consumers.
