Student Health

Health care insurance coverage for students is designed to meld with whatever health care is offered by the educational institutions.  Most family policies allow coverage for them as dependents up to the age of nineteen.  If they are in college beyond that age they are allowed as dependents on their parents’ health care policy.

Many colleges provide some degree of health care for their student body.  More often that not it is fairly basic and many college students face inadequate health care protection if they are relying solely on the health care provided by the academic institution.  There are special insurance policies available for students in this situation.

One example is a well-known health insurance firm that offers a one-year plan which is renewable annually up to the age of thirty.  There is an annual deductible tied to the policy of up to $2,500.  Insurance coverage takes effect once the policy holder has expended the deductible amount on health coverage costs.  The higher the deductible, the lower the monthly premium.

Once the insurance coverage becomes applicable, the policy covers eighty percent of all covered medical costs up to $10,000.  The policy is really designed for a fall back if major health problems arise.  The deductible will encourage students to use the campus clinic and turn to their student health insurance policy for serious health issues or for treatment not offered on campus.
